Ranking reputation - exploring the drivers of reputation management
Understanding the drivers of reputation for any organisation in the extractive industry is vital - NGO and investor attitudes to environmental challenges and risks; the impact of rising commodity prices on company financial performance; the management of legislative and policy issues. All are able to change the perceptions and expectations of a company's various stakeholder groups; its shareholders, regulators, NGOs and governments.
But as the channels of influence increase, so the ability to identify, monitor and analyse the issues that affect a company’s reputation becomes harder.
Alberto Lopez-Valenzuela, founder and CEO of Alva, explores best practice reputation management, focusing on corporate culture, corporate leadership, financial performance, products & services and social performance of some of the leading companies in the extractive industries. He will share Alva's recent research, culminating in the definitive league table of reputation performance.

Extracting economic myths from the extraction industry
Dr. Carole Nakhle is an energy economist, based in London, and specialising in international petroleum fiscal regimes, world oil and gas market developments, and energy policy. She is an associate of the Surrey Energy Economics Centre (SEEC) as well as Associate Lecturer in Energy Economics at the University of Surrey. She also acts as a consultant to major oil companies, and academic consultancies, and as External Expert for the Fiscal Affairs Department at the IMF. She is also a regular contributor to the Liechtenstein based Geopolitical Information Service.
In this session, Dr Carole looks at how important transparency is in the extraction industries, how they manage transparency, what political influence do they really have on the world today, how they shape their image and what impact they have on the policy makers. |

Corporate storytelling
In April 2011, Wood Group PSN was created through the acquisition of Production Services Network by John Wood Group plc. In a deal valued at $955 million, a new business was created overnight with more than 23,000 people spread across 35 countries. But our story begins in 2006 with a single Scot’s pine tree surrounded by giant Redwoods...
Georgie Howden, Head of Communications for Wood Group PSN, reflects on how storytelling has shaped the destiny of a business and its importance in unifying two businesses under a single identity.

Integrated reporting
Integrated Reporting is a new approach to corporate reporting that demonstrates the linkages between an organisation’s strategy, governance and financial performance and the social, environmental and economic context, in which it operates.
A number of companies within the oil, gas and mining sectors have signed up to be part of the pilot programme, but how can integrated reporting help business to take more sustainable decisions and enable investors and other stakeholders to understand how an organization is really performing.
Richard Carpenter, managing partner at MerchantCantos, and former editor of Investor Relations magazine, discusses the principles of integrated reporting.
